Another venue that’s more used to hosting club nights than gigs, apart from on the Great Escape. And thank god for that; this is probably my least favourite venue in the city.
I’ve actually missed quite a few bands I wouldn’t have minded seeing purely because they were playing here. Why? Largely because of its shape. Wide, with a narrow stage, large obscuring pillars and tiered areas at the back might be great for clubbing, but they’re terrible for live music, especially when full. The truth is, you just can’t see the stage from pretty much anywhere apart from right in the middle.
The queues at the titchy bar also tend to be so long that you’ll miss half the set if you have the audacity to want a beer.
